Miles Davis's sextet, with John Coltrane, Cannonball Adderley, Bill Evans, Paul Chambers and Jimmy Cobb, recorded in two sessions with little rehearsal. Instead of fast chord changes, Davis gave the players scales to improvise on, and the five pieces, from "So What" to "Blue in Green", are spacious and calm.
