Van Morrison's second album, recorded in New York in a few sessions with jazz musicians, among them the bassist Richard Davis, who improvised around his songs. Acoustic guitar, upright bass, flute, vibraphone and strings swirl through long, dreamlike songs of love and memory set in Belfast, such as "Astral Weeks", "Cyprus Avenue", "Sweet Thing" and "Madame George".
