Talks given by Dorotheus, a sixth-century monk and abbot near Gaza, to the monks in his care, together with sayings and letters. Practical and gentle, they teach humility, giving up self-will, and refusing to blame others, and include his image of the world as a circle with God at the centre: the closer people come to God, the closer they come to one another.
