The sermons John, called Chrysostom ("golden-mouthed"), preached at Antioch and later at Constantinople, most of them working through a book of Scripture verse by verse, including Genesis, Matthew, John, Acts, and all of Paul's letters. Plain in their reading of the text and pointed in their application, they return again and again to almsgiving, the dangers of wealth, and the reform of daily life.
